How to Use Living Garden

Click or drag anywhere on the screen to plant flowers. Each flower grows with its own personality—random colors, petal counts, and sizes make every garden unique. As your garden fills with blooms, butterflies will start to appear, fluttering between flowers before drifting away. Each click plays a gentle musical note from a pentatonic scale, turning your planting into a quiet melody.

The "New Season" button clears your garden if you want to start fresh. There's a flower counter in the corner tracking your blooms, and butterflies too once they arrive. You can plant densely or sparsely, quickly or slowly—the garden doesn't judge. It just grows. Watch the flowers sway in the wind, notice how they lean toward your cursor, see the grass move beneath them. No tutorials needed—just click and watch life emerge.

Why I Built This

I created this on a day when I needed to make something but didn't want to think hard about it. Most creative tools demand decisions at every step—what color? what brush? what composition? Living Garden removes all that. You make one choice: where to click. The garden handles everything else—what color the flower is, how many petals, how tall it grows. Simple actions creating surprising beauty.

I wanted something that felt more like planting seeds than painting a picture. You don't control what grows, you just choose where to plant. Some flowers bloom bright coral, others soft mint or yellow. Butterflies arrive on their own schedule. It's about finding joy in letting go of control, watching randomness create something beautiful. Each garden becomes a little record of your clicks, a map of where your attention wandered across the screen.

This is just a digital toy for those moments when you want to make something grow without overthinking it. Plant a few flowers during a break, watch butterflies visit, listen to the quiet music. It's entertainment, not therapy—just a small space where clicking feels purposeful and gentle.

Tips for the Best Experience

  • Plant your first few flowers slowly—watch the full growth animation and listen to the sound.
  • Try planting in clusters for a dense garden, or spread them out for a meadow feel.
  • Wait for butterflies to appear (they show up after 3+ flowers) and watch where they choose to rest.
  • Drag your mouse to create flowing lines of flowers, or click deliberately for careful placement.
  • Turn your sound on—each flower plays a musical note that adds to the experience.
  • No pressure—if the randomness doesn't give you flowers you like today, hit "New Season" and try again. This is just here when you want it.
