This experience was created for people who find comfort in the sound of rain.
How to Use Rainy Window
Click "Enter Room" and you'll find yourself looking through a fogged-up window at a rainy cityscape. The glass gradually clouds over with condensation—just like a real window on a cold, rainy night. Drag your mouse or finger across the screen to wipe away the fog and reveal the blurred lights outside. The rain sounds start automatically, mixing gentle droplets with distant city ambiance. There's no timer, no goal, no "winning." Just watch the rain fall, wipe the glass when you feel like it, and let the pattern repeat. The fog always comes back, giving you something gentle to do with your hands while your mind wanders. Use the volume icon to adjust the rain sounds or go silent. Hit the fullscreen button if you want the window to fill your entire screen—it helps with immersion when you need to shut out everything else for a while.
Why I Built This
I made this after spending too many sleepless nights wishing it would rain. There's something about the sound of rain on glass and the soft blur of city lights through fog that makes everything feel quieter, slower, safer. I grew up in a place where rainy nights meant staying inside, watching condensation form on cold windows, tracing patterns in the fog with my fingertips. It wasn't meditation or mindfulness—it was just something to do when the world felt overwhelming.
This simulation tries to recreate that small, private ritual. The interactive fog gives you something tactile—a reason to keep your hands busy without thinking too hard. The looping rain sounds provide just enough audio texture to drown out distracting noise without demanding your attention. I wrote more about the memories that inspired this in Rainy Nights and Fogged Windows. It's not therapy. It's not a medical tool. It's just a digital rainy window for those moments when you need the world to feel a little softer and quieter.
Tips for the Best Experience
- Use headphones if you can—the rain sounds have subtle layering that gets lost through laptop speakers.
- Try fullscreen mode when you need to block out visual distractions—it makes the window feel more real.
- Wipe the fog in slow, deliberate strokes rather than frantically clearing the whole screen—it's more satisfying.
- Let the fog build back up completely before wiping again—the gradual clouding is part of the rhythm.
- Dim your room lights if possible—the contrast makes the blurred city lights feel warmer and more distant.
- There's no "correct" way to use this. If staring at a digital rainy window doesn't help, that's completely fine. Close the tab and try something else. No pressure—this is just one small tool, and it won't work for everyone or every moment.
